Despite playing from behind for much of the first set, the maroon and white took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Owls, giving Molloy a 20-19 lead. Freshman Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) and Affrunti closed the opening game, combining for the final five points.

The Lions played a tight second set, trailing by only three, 19-16, before three straight attack errors opened a window for SCSU to take the set. The Owls rallied for two separate five-point runs in the third set. Molloy came close late, 21-20, but ultimately ran out of time and fell by two, 25-23. Southern Connecticut clinched the match in a fourth set that saw the maroon and white attack at a negative percentage.

Meyer, redshirt sophomore Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) and sophomore Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) each added six kills on the evening. Senior Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the contest with 21 digs. Affrunti and sophomore Devon Hagerstrom (Bethpage, N.Y.) each had two blocks while Hagerstrom also added two aces.

The maroon and white return to action in Quealy Gymnasium on Wednesday (Oct. 25) as they take on Queens College at 6:00 p.m.
