New Haven, Conn. (Oct. 23, 2017) – Volleyball's three-game win streak was snapped as the Lions fell, 3-1 at Southern Connecticut State University in a late non-conference matchup. Molloy was led by 13 kills from freshman
Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.) while sophomore
Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) tallied her seventh double-double on the season with 38 assists and 12 kills. Molloy now sits at 18-5 on the season while SCSU improves to 19-5.

Despite playing from behind for much of the first set, the maroon and white took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Owls, giving Molloy a 20-19 lead. Freshman
Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) and Affrunti closed the opening game, combining for the final five points.
The Lions played a tight second set, trailing by only three, 19-16, before three straight attack errors opened a window for SCSU to take the set. The Owls rallied for two separate five-point runs in the third set. Molloy came close late, 21-20, but ultimately ran out of time and fell by two, 25-23. Southern Connecticut clinched the match in a fourth set that saw the maroon and white attack at a negative percentage.

Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the contest with 21 digs. Affrunti and sophomore

The maroon and white return to action in Quealy Gymnasium on Wednesday (Oct. 25) as they take on Queens College at 6:00 p.m.
