Massey Sets Single-Season Goals Record; Men's Soccer Falls to Bridgeport

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2017) – Junior Daniel Massey (Warrington, England) tallied his 14th and 15th goals of the season setting a new single-season program record, but the Molloy men's soccer team fell to the Bridgeport Purple Knights, 6-4, on senior day Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions move to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in conference play with the loss.

The Purple Knights (4-9-1 3-4-1 ECC) opened the scoring in the 6th minute on a goal from Joavante Etienne. Molloy responded a minute later, sophomore Paul Morales (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the year, off an assist from sophomore Anthony Cestaro (Massapequa Park, N.Y.), to tie the score, 1-1. Bridgeport scored the match's next three goals and brought a 4-1 advantage into the break.

The Lions began to come back in the second stanza.  Massey scored on a break, which was started by a header from junior Andy Boylan (Dublin, Ireland), in the 55th minute to cut the Bridgeport lead to 4-2.

After the visitors went ahead 5-2, Massey netted a goal, which was assisted by sophomore Lukas Firestone (Ellsworth, Maine), in the 82nd minute. A minute later, sophomore Matt Miller (Oceanside, N.Y.) headed in a pass from Boylan into the net to shrink the Purple Knights' lead to 5-4.

The maroon and white, which took 22 shots, continued the pressure, but couldn't knot the score. Bridgeport's Yoel Salvador tallied a goal in the 89th minute to give the away team an insurance marker.

Molloy honored seniors Kieran Hall (Massapequa Park, N.Y.), Foazy Nwaiser (Great River, N.Y.), Chris Moschella (Miller Place, N.Y.),  and Adam Carnwath (Fleet, England) as part of senior day before the match.

The Lions return to action Wednesday, Oct. 25, when they welcome Bloomsburg for a non-conference contest. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
