Amherst, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2017) – Despite an eight day rest from competition, volleyball fell in three sets at Daemen College at Lumsden Gymnasium. The loss sets the Lions at 15-4 on the season and 4-2 in East Coast Conference play. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 4-2 in ECC play (8-10 on the season), leaving the teams tied for third-place.

In the first set, the maroon and white battled, behind as much as 7-4, to take a 17-14 lead on a kill from sophomore
Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.). Daemen however, rallied to tie the contest at 17-17 before pulling ahead 20-18. The Lions took advantage of attacking errors, paired with two kills from freshman
Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.) and a service ace from fellow rookie
Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) to pull ahead 23-20. Attack errors returned to haunt the Lions however, as Daemen took the set, 25-23.
Molloy would take the first point in the second set, but that would be the final lead of the afternoon for the maroon and white. The Lions, who hit at .074, found themselves playing from behind the remainder of the contest and were unable to overcome the deficits.
Meyer and sophomore
Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) each served two aces, helping the Lions to a 6-3 advantage over the Wildcats from the service line. Sophomore
Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led the visitors with nine kills, hitting at .200. The blocker added an ace of her own ,as well as two blocks and one dig. Smith tallied 25 assists and a team-high three blocks with five digs and one kill. Senior
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) chipped in 13 digs.
The team continues the upstate road trip tomorrow as they face Roberts Wesleyan College at 12:00 p.m.
