ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2017) – Molloy's women's basketball team increased their winning streak to six games following a 52-45 contest over the Wildcats of Daemen College. The Lions improve to 14-4 on the season and 6-2 in East Coast Conference play, while the loss dropped the Wildcats to 5-11 (2-6 ECC).
The maroon and white were led by 17 points from
Ihnacinse Grady (Amityville, N.Y.). The sophomore played a complete 40 minutes, shooting 50% from the field (6-of-12) and going 5-of-11 from three point range. Joining her in double-digits was graduate student
Kamala Thompson (Selden, N.Y.) with 16 points. The Lions won the rebounds battle, pulling down 52 boards to Daemen's 34.
Symone Kelly (Wyandanch, N.Y.) brought down a game-high 16 rebounds.
Molloy roared out of the gate, going up 15-2 in the first quarter, featuring six points from both Grady and Thompson. In the second frame, Daemen responded with an 8-0 run to come within nine points. Grady and Thompson each sunk field goals in the final minutes to set the score at 23-10 going into the break.
The third quarter saw the Lions extend to their largest lead of the game, as Grady and freshman
Kathryn Gibson (Neponsit, N.Y.) pushed Molloy ahead 36-16. Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y.) cut the lead to 15 with a three-pointer, but Grady responded with one of her own to close the frame. The Wildcats closed in during the final frame, going on a 21-7 run to come within four points. Kelly nailed three of her final four foul shots to seal the game in favor of the Lions 52-45.
The Lions head to Brookville, N.Y. on Wednesday (Jan. 18) for a contest with LIU Post at 5:00 p.m.
