OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2016) - Senior midfielder
Orlando Castaneda (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored his first goal as a Molloy Lion in the 71st minute and solid goalkeeping from
Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) made the one-goal lead hold up on Saturday (Sept. 24) as the maroon and white took down NYIT by a final of 1-0 in Old Westbury.
Castaneda's goal was crafted well on an assist by fellow senior
Kyle Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.), who crossed the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box for his teammate to pound home past Bears goalkeeper Jonathan Rico (Elmhurst, N.Y.). That was one of just seven shots by the Lions in the contest, as NYIT was plus-five in the category. Bonilla, however, played one of his more impressive contests with seven saves to earn a clean sheet and help Molloy improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in East Coast Conference play. NYIT falls to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1 in conference competition.
Molloy will face Roberts Wesleyan on Friday night (Sept. 30) at 7 p.m. in another conference clash, this time at RVC Sports Complex.
