Offensive Onslaught Leads Men's Soccer to 3-0 Win Over Nyack

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2016) - Senior midfielder Kyle Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied five points---two goals and one assists---and freshman Paul Morales (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) scored his first career goal as the Molloy College men's soccer team easily cruised to a 3-0 victory against Nyack College on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at the RVC Sports Complex.

Molloy (2-2) had early chances against the opposition with the opening chance coming in the sixth minute. A shot from senior Orlando Castaneda (Bethpage, N.Y.) rattled off of the crossbar and right to teammate Adam Carnwath (Fleet, England); but the attempt from the Concord (W.Va.) transfer was saved by Nyack keeper Wiktor Lasota (Lodz, Poland). As the contest continued, Molloy kept the pressure on Lasota with several more shots aimed at the Warriors' net. Senior forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, N.Y.) was the beneficiary of a foul inside the 18-yard box---which led to a red card on Nyack's Storm Glautier (Stellenbosch, South Africa)---but his penalty kick attempt in the 28th minute was parried aside by Lasota. A subsequent rebound chance by Anthony Cestaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) went wide but the Lions were mere minutes away from breaking the deadlock, now the possessors of an 11-on-10 advantage thanks to the dismissal of Glautier from the game.

In the 34th minute, a feed from Poetzsch found the foot of a cutting Morales. The freshman rocketed a shot towards cage that beat Lasota and clattered off the underside of the crossbar before crossing the goal line. The 1-0 lead for the maroon and white doubled to a two-goal edge about sixty seconds later. Off of a corner kick by Lucio Sorto (Baldwin, N.Y.), Cestaro slotted a pass to Poetzsch who one-timed an attempt into the lower corner of the goal for his fourth goal of the season. The senior would be done for the points in the first half, but the reigning ECC Preseason Player of the year was able to score once more in the second half. In the 50th minute of play, Castaneda sent Poetzsch loose at the top of the 18-yard box and the Hicksville native sent a screamer past the grasp of Lasota and into the twine of the net.

Poetzsch's brace came on a team-high nine shots with three attempts on goal. All in all, Molloy outshot Nyack by a 21-7 margin; Morales and Whyte each had two shots on goal as well. Sophomore goalie Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) earned his first clean sheet as a Lion by making three saves in cage.

Molloy will have a long lay-off before its next contest, as the Lions enter conference play on Sept. 24 against NYIT in Old Westbury.
