OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2016) - Despite a laborious battle in the third and final set, the Molloy College volleyball team was ultimately felled in a sweep by NYIT on Thursday (Nov. 3) at Recreation Hall in Old Westbury. The Bears moved to 22-5 on the season and 8-3 in ECC play with a 25-17, 25-10 and 33-31 straight-sets victory over Molloy (6-22, 3-9 ECC).
Freshman
Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.)Â had a team-high seven kills but the Lions had more attacking errors (30) than kills (29) in the match. Both
 Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) and
Devon Hagerstrom (Lynbrook, N.Y.) had six kills as rookie
Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) added five kills in the front row. Setter
Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) added 21 assists as junior libero
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) collected a strong defensive effort with a match-best 20 digs.
Sophomore Tiffany Verni (Patchogue, N.Y.) had the match of matches for NYIT on Thursday with a 21-kill effort on a .375 hitting percentage. She was the only player in double-digit kill totals as Karolina Moderova (Zaleskie, Slovakia) posted seven kills and setter Allison Fowler (Centennial, Colo.) added six. Fowler also had 31 assists and six digs; meanwhile, libero Chessie Santeramo (Fremont, Calif.) and defensive specialist Samantha Degaray (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded 16 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Molloy College volleyball team is next in action on Tuesday (Nov. 8) with a 7 p.m. tilt at the University of Bridgeport.
