Box Score

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2015) - In Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. tonight, the Molloy College men's basketball team was led by junior forward Kevin Bowles (Wantagh, N.Y.), who netted a team-high 15 points to help the Lions to a 71-68 victory over East Coast Conference-opponent Mercy College. Bowles fell two points short of his career-high and also added three rebounds, two steals and a block. With the win, the Lions are now 12-9 overall and 7-6 in the league, while the Mavericks fell to 7-12 on the season (2-11 ECC).

The first half was pretty much equal as Mercy went into the intermission with a 32-31 lead. The two squads' field goal percentages were off by .02% as Mercy shot 48.3% compared to Molloy's 48.1%. However, in the second half, the Mavericks weren't able to keep that pace and fired on just 39.3% of their shots. On the other hand, the Lions sunk 52.6% of their field goals, and stepped to the free throw line an astonishing 24 times. They sunk 20 of those shots (83.3%).

The game was tied with 7:56 remaining in the second stanza, but Molloy immediately from that point on started to mount a double-digit lead. The Lions saw that margin shrink in the final 13 seconds of the game when the Mavericks were able to cut their deficit to three points following a couple of free throws, a trey and a layup off a turnover. However, there just wasn't enough time left and the Lions held on for the triumph.

Following Bowles' 15, senior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) netted 13 points, while junior center Chucks Obunse (St. Albans, N.Y.) contributed a season-high 11 points. Sophomore guard Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) finished with nine points, five boards and two assists.

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions return to the court on Saturday, February 7 when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y. The opening tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
