Men's Basketball Downs Dowling in Regular Season Finale, 87-64

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 28, 2015) - On Saturday, the Molloy College men's basketball team defeated the Golden Lions of Dowling College, 84-67 on Senior Day. Prior to tipoff, the men's basketball program honored its three graduating seniors Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.), Richard Zoller (Syosset, N.Y.) and Miles Prendergast (Bayport, N.Y.). The win improves the Lions to 16-12 overall and 11-9 in the East Coast Conference, while Dowling falls to 12-15 overall and 10-10 in conference play.

In the first half, the Lions built up a 36-28 lead, appropriately with the help of ones of the seniors being honored today -- Zoller (8 points). 

After the break, the Lions completely took over the game with their largest lead of the day coming at the 51 second mark of the second half, which was 25 points. The team compiled a 50.0% field goal conversion rate (19 for 38), while going a perfect 12-for-12 from the foul line. By comparison, in the second stanza, Dowling shot 38.2% from the floor. Overall for the game, Molloy shot 49.3% from the floor and sunk 16 of its 19 free throw attempts (84.2%). 

For the Lions, McLeod paced the team with 19 points (8-11 shooting from the field), while sophomore guard Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) added a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards. Zoller finished with 16 points, which came up two points short of his career-high (vs. St. Thomas Aquinas on February 15, 2014). Junior guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) netted 14.

The Golden Lions were led by Tristan Brown and his 17 points.

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions will now gear up for the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament, set to begin on Wednesday, March 4 with the Quarterfinal Play-In Round. Molloy will play LIU Post, but seeding still is to be determined. If LIU Post loses to Roberts Wesleyan College tomorrow (March 1), Molloy will host.
