Men's Basketball Drops ECC Game to Bridgeport, 77-66

Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 26, 2015) - In the penultimate contest of the 2014-15 regular season, the Molloy College men's basketball team lost to the University of Bridgeport, 77-66. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 21-6 overall and 16-3 in the East Coast Conference, while the Lions slip to 15-12 on the year and 10-9 in the league.

While the Lions trailed the Purple Knights at halftime, 36-31, Molloy actually posted a higher shooting percentage (44.4% compared to Bridgeport's 40.7%). Bridgeport led for the majority of the first half with Molloy claiming just a couple of leads.

Following the intermission, Bridgeport continued to hold the lead and did so for the entire 20-minute period. For the first 17 minutes of the second half, the Purple Knights held a single-digit lead, showing how close Molloy kept the game. In that second half, Molloy recorded a field goal percentage of 40.6% -- staying consistent with its first half mark -- while Bridgeport improved its clip to 45.0%.

For the Lions, a trio of players scored 12 points tonight -- junior guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.), senior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and senior center Richard Zoller (Syosset, N.Y.). Rounding out the double-digit scoring was sophomore guard Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.), who added 10 points and corralled six rebounds.

For Bridgeport, Devon Elliott scored 18 points, while Jesse Jones netted 16. Eddie Asamoah contributed 15 points and eight rebounds.

UP NEXT: Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions wrap up their regular season on Saturday, February 28 when they host Dowling College at 2:30 p.m. from Quealy Gymnasium. The contest will be a critical one as both squads enter in with 10-9 ECC records and are vying for home court advantage in the playoffs.

FINAL TUNE-UP: Saturday's game versus Dowling will be the Lions final tune-up before the ECC Quarterfinal playoff game -- also known as the Play-In Round -- on Wednesday, March 4...Molloy will either play NYIT, Dowling or LIU Post, and can be on the road or at home.
