Men's Basketball Bests NYIT in ECC Battle, 75-69

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2015) - The Molloy College men's basketball team defeated the New York Institute of Technology Bears this afternoon, 75-69. With the win, the Lions improve to 14-11 overall and 9-8 in East Coast Conference play, while the Bears fall to 11-14 overall and 8-9 in the league. 
 
In the first half, the Lions led the Bears by a score of 43-31 with the help of the continued hot shooting of sophomore forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.). Marquardt nailed four three-pointers in the first half. Molloy also saw a 12-point, first-half performance from senior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.).
 
The Lions remained in control for much of the first half. They held an advantage of as many as 17 points, which came at the 2:27 minute mark.
 
The second half featured more tight play between the two squads as the Bears would eventually tie the game. The Lions led by single digits for the second portion of the second period. At 4:24, a three-ball from NYIT's Kachi Nzerem tied the game at 65-65. In the final minute of regulation, the Lions iced the game with a three-point play by McLeod, and junior Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior Richard Zoller (Syosset, N.Y.) going 4-for-4 on foul shots.

McLeod finished the game with 17 points (6-12 from the field), while Zoller contributed 14 points to the effort. Williams dished out a team-high seven assists.
 
The Lions held the Bears' Darian Hooker under his average of 28.2 points per game with 21.

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions look to continue their win streak when they play at Queens College beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24.
