Men's Basketball Earns Critical Victory Over UDC, 86-80

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 14, 2015) - The Molloy College men's basketball team defeated the University of the District of Columbia to earn a crucial and important victory down the stretch this afternoon, 86-80. With the win, the Lions improve to 13-10 overall and 8-7 in East Coast Conference action, while the Firebirds fall to 5-19 overall and 5-11 in the league.

At halftime, the Lions led by a commanding margin, 51-38 via a smooth three-point touch from sophomore forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.), who had 12 points (4-5 from downtown) and sophomore guard Jaylen Morris' (Amherst, N.Y.) 14 points. The Lions held an advantage by as many as 13 points in the first half.

In the second stanza, Molloy continued to build upon its lead while withstanding comeback attempts and various runs from the Firebirds.

For the game, Marquardt finished with 18, while junior guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the way with 19 points -- including an impressive 11-11 from the charity stripe. Morris netted 16 points, while senior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) added 13. 

The Firebirds were led by Erin Senegal's 20 points (7-12 from the field).

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions return to the hardwood at home when they face LIU Post on Wednesday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m.
