Men's Basketball Drops 55-48 Decision to Philadelphia

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Jan. 4, 2015) - On Sunday, the Molloy College men's basketball squad lost to non-conference opponent Philadelphia University, 55-48, to slip to 7-5 overall. The Rams bettered their ledger to 8-4 following the victory.

Midway through the first half, the Rams mounted a double-digit lead, before Molloy knocked it down to a six-point advantage. Philadelphia then put together a 9-1 run to help close out the opening period with a 28-18 lead.

Following the intermission, the Lions eventually chipped their deficit down to just three points on a Maurice Gatson (New York, N.Y.) jumper with 7:38 left. A minute later, junior center Chucks Obunse (St. Albans, N.Y.) drained a jump shot and two minutes later, senior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) slammed in a dunk to cut Philadelphia's advantage to 41-40.

However, the Rams were able to get that lead back up with a quick 4-0 run. For the remaining 2:43 in regulation, Philadelphia continued to convert on free throws and held on for the win. A last-second three-pointer from Gatson ended the contest with the Rams on top, 55-48.

For Molloy, junior guard Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored 13 points, while giving out a pair of assists and grabbing four rebounds. McLeod finished with seven points and eight boards.

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions return home on Wednesday to host the University of D.C. at 7:30 p.m.
