Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 30, 2015) - The Molloy College men's basketball squad fell to Daemen College in heart-breaking fashion in overtime tonight, 82-76. The loss drops the Lions to 10-9 overall and 5-6 in East Coast Conference play, while the Wildcats move to 14-5 overall and 9-2 in ECC action. Continuing to battle the entire game, the Lions nearly completed the upset of a Wildcats team that's been regionally ranked this campaign.
At halftime, the Lions trailed by a score of 30-19 after allowing the Wildcats to shoot 46.4% from the field. The Lions would trail by as many as 11 in the first half.
In the second half, the Lions eventually rallied, cutting a 17-point deficit to just two points after a three-pointer from junior guard
Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) at the 8:33 mark. The Lions would eventually take the lead after a trey from senior guard
Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) with 7:50 left in the game. In the last five minutes of regulation, the contest saw three ties and three different lead changes. Then with three seconds remaining in regulation, Williams drew a foul driving to the basket. With Molloy down by two points, Williams knocked down both of his free throws to send the game into overtime. The Lions, however, couldn't really find its rhythm in the overtime session, falling to the Wildcats, 82-76.
For the game, the Lions were paced by McLeod's double-double of 23 points (8-14 shooting from the field) and 10 boards. Williams finished with 21 points, while sophomore guard
Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points.
The Wildcats were led by the duo of senior forward Gerald Beverly (23 points) and Torrence Dyck Jr. (28 points). Beverely finished the game with 23 points and 16 boards giving him his 15th double-double of the season.
