Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Jan. 17, 2015) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College men's basketball team witnessed senior guard
Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and sophomore forward
Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) each pour in 22 points, but in the end it wasn't enough as the Lions dropped an East Coast Conference affair with the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, N.Y., 93-86. The Bears were able to eek out the win in the game's final two minutes. With the loss, the Lions are now 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the league, while the Bears improved to 5-10 (2-5 ECC).
The Lions held the advantage for the entire first half, except for one occasion -- at the 16:52 mark. Molloy hit its highwater-mark of 13 points three times. In the opening stanza, Molloy shot 50% from the floor (19-38) and drained six of its 11 three-pointers (54.5%). At the intermission, Molloy held a 48-39 lead.
The Bears earned its second lead of the game with three minutes remaining in the second half. Molloy retook the lead within the next minute thanks to a Marquardt trey and a jumper from sophomore guard
Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.). With 1:59 left, Molloy was ahead, 86-83. NYIT was able to complete the comeback and lock down the victory with a perfect 6-6 from the foul line and converting on two buckets. On the Lions' offensive side of the court, Molloy came up short on three shots trying to hold the Bears at-bay.
For the Lions, behind Marquardt's 22 and McLeod's 22, Morris netted 14 points, while junior guard
Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored 11 points. For the game, the Lions hit 11 of their 22 trey attempts -- six of those via Marquardt's smooth touch. McLeod was an unblemished 4-4 from three-point land.
