Although the conference records would predict otherwise, the first half was a tight game with LIU Post's highest lead coming at seven points, and Molloy's coming at six points. There were three ties throughout the action as the Pioneers headed into halftime ahead, 34-30. In that opening stanza, the Pioneers shot 40.7%, while the Lions trailed with a clip of 33.3%. And while the Lions' second-half field goal rate of 37.5% wasn't abnormally special, Molloy hung in there, battled back and thanks to LIU Post's second-half mark of 25.7% from the floor, was able to lock down the win.

With 3:47 left in the game, the second half witnessed its fifth tie between the two squads. Trading bucket for bucket, the Pioneers eventually earned a sixth tie with 17 seconds remaning as Charles McCann drained a jumper in the paint. That basket turned the score to 59-59. Then, 15 seconds later, Morris earned his ninth and 10th points of the contest with that game-clinching layup to help his team to a 61-59 league victory.

For Molloy, senior guard Matt McLeod (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored a game-best 20 points, while Morris had 10 points and five assists. Sophomore forward Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) netted nine points, while senior Miles Prendergast (Bayport, N.Y.) and junior Brandon Williams (Baldwin, N.Y.) each contributed seven in the win.
