Seaford, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2017) – The Molloy field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. The loss brings the Lions to 0-8 on the season while Mercyhurst improves to 3-4 on the year with the victory.
The maroon and white fell behind 4-0 in the first half. In the final minutes of the opening frame, Molloy had a number of key possessions in the offensive zone, taking three shots within 60 seconds. All attempts, however, were blocked before reaching the net. The Lions added two additional shots in the opening minutes of the second frame before the Lakers added the final marker of the contest at 47:24.

Zoe Norton (Sayville, N.Y.) led the team with three shots, including Molloy's only shot on goal. Freshman
Nadia Elcock (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior
Melissa Fuerst (Selden, N.Y.) each registered two shots with the senior also adding a defensive save. Junior goalkeeper
Tara Byrnes (Huntington, N.Y.) made nine saves in the effort.
The team returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 30) to face Pace University at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Creek Park.
