Brian Smith joined the Molloy College volleyball staff as an assistant coach in March of 2020.

Smith's primary focus will be to assist in the recruitment of student-athletes as well as scouting and game preparations for the current squad.

"I am excited to have Brian join my staff," commented Head Volleyball Coach and Associate Director of Athletics for Operations Kevin DesLauriers. "He brings a passion and excitement for the game in all areas necessary for the development and sustainability of Molloy volleyball program as a perennial contender in both the East Coast Conference and the East Region."

Before joining the maroon and white, Smithwas a member of Academy Sports of Long Island's coaching staff since 2017. Serving as an assistant for both boy's and girl's volleyball, he was instrumental in guiding three teams to USA Volleyball National Championship berths. In 2019, he became a head coach, once again leading his squad to the Girl's Junior National Championship. Over two dozen of Smith's former players have gone on to earn scholarships at both the Division I and Division II levels.

A former student-athlete himself, Smith excelled with the SUNY New Paltz men's volleyball team, serving as a three-year captain and leading the Hawks to its fisrt-ever UVC Conference Championship, ranking first in the nation in Division III. Individually, Smith was named to the All-Tournament Team and was selected as a recipient of the Neinz Ahlmeyer Jr. Award, the highest honor that can be awarded to a New Paltz student-athlete.

Smith remains an active player, competing nationally in both indoor and beach volleyball, recently finishing fifth in the Open Division at USAV Nationals.

Smith comes from an extensive volleyball family, with both of his brothers joining the New Paltz volleyball team, where they were selected as All-Americans, his sister competing at Iona College, and his parents meeting through beach volleyball.
