Women’s Soccer Plays Bridgeport to Scoreless Draw

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – It was a defensive clinic on both sides of the pitch Wednesday afternoon, as the Molloy women's soccer team and the Bridgeport Purple Knights went the distance to end in a scoreless draw. The Lions move to 2-2-1 on the campaign, while the Purple Knights sit at 1-0-3.

How it Happened
  • The Lions had a pair of chances 35 seconds apart between the eighth and ninth minute. Junior Jana Strait had her initial chance blocked before seeing a header following a free kick go above the crossbar.
  • Molloy would corner a third and fourth chance in the 19th and 29th minute, but neither chance would challenge to land on target.
  • The lone save in the first half came from goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz in the 32nd minute, denying Manuela Macedo of an icebreaker.
  • Bridgeport tallied three more chances in the final 13 minutes of the opening 45, but none would land on target sending the game into halftime.
  • 2:48 into the second half, senior Isabella Muro created space inside the right of the 18-yard box and fired a shot, but the attempt was saved by Bridgeport goalkeeper Angelina Griva.
  • 10 minutes would go by before the contests next chance, coming from the road team. Tayna Queiroz lined up a shot that forced Muñoz to make a save.
  • Through the 85th minute, neither side would generate a threatening scoring chance as both lines of defense were stout in pursuit of limiting offense.
