Martin Nets First Career Goal; Women’s Soccer Falls at Georgian Court

Lakewood, N.J. – The Molloy women's soccer team fell, 4-1, to the Lions of Georgian Court Saturday afternoon at the GCU Track & Field Complex. Molloy moves to 2-3-1 on the campaign, while Georgian Court improves to 1-3-1.
 
How it Happened
  • Two minutes into the contest, junior Bella Juliano looked to get on the scoreboard, but her shot was saved by Georgian Court goalkeeper Delaine Wilkinson.
  • The next two shots on target came from the home team in the eighth and 11th minutes with senior goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz making a pair of saves.
  • In the 17th minute, senior Isabella Muro fired a shot that would hit off the cross bar, keeping the contest scoreless.
  • Junior Emily Scali recorded the following two scoring chances for the road team, but Wilkinson would make a pair of denials in the 18th and 25th minutes.
  • 13 minutes would go by without a shot before Muñoz would be forced to make a comfortable save in the 38th minute.
  • Molloy broke through in the 42nd minute. Just over two minutes after entering the contest, sophomore Amanda Martin finished off a pass from junior Marissa Tonic to give the cardinal and white a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • Five minutes into the second half, Muro would threaten with a scoring opportunity, but the chance would be saved by Wilkinson.
  • Through the next 17 minutes, the cardinal and white would outshoot the home team 3-1 but could not find the target.
  • Georgian Court cracked the scoreboard in the 69th minute, converting a penalty kick to knot the contest at one.
  • 29 seconds later, the home team would find the back of the net once again to jump ahead, 2-1.
  • The offensive barrage continued for Georgian Court in the 72nd minute as they would net their third goal in a row to increase their lead, 3-1.
  • The home team capped the afternoon with their fourth tally in the 80th minute while on their way to the victory, 4-1.

  • Martin scored her first goal of her collegiate career.
  • Tonic tallied her second assist of the season.
  • Muro led the contest with five shots.
  • In goal, Muñoz made six saves.

Molloy will travel to Rindge, New Hampshire Wednesday, September 16 for a contest against 23rd-ranked Franklin Pierce at 4:00 p.m.
