Caldwell, N.J. – For the second straight game, the Molloy women's soccer team totaled over 30 shots en route to a 6-1 victory over the Caldwell Cougars Saturday afternoon at Kiwanis Oval. The Lions improve to 2-2 while the Cougars move to 0-3.
How it Happened
- After the cardinal and white totaled two shots in the opening five minutes, freshman Ysabelle Perillo cracked the scoreboard with a goal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute
- Over the next 20 minutes, the Molloy offense continued to thrive, totaling eight shots and three on goal, but Caldwell goalkeeper Arianna Sullivan kept the Lions off the board.
- Caldwell's first shot came in the 23rd minute, but senior goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz made a clean save.
- The 31st minute saw junior Jana Strait finish off a feed from senior Isabella Muro to increase the Molloy lead, 2-0.
- Strait threatened for one more chance in the final minute of the half, but Sullivan made the save, sending the game into halftime with road team in front.
- 4:04 into the second half, the Lions earned a penalty kick. Muro stepped up to the penalty spot and buried to open the Molloy lead to three, 3-0.
- The Cougars garnered two chances through the next minute in search to get on the board, but Muñoz made a pair of saves on Valerie Monge to keep the shut out intact.
- Senior Madison Keenan put herself on the scoresheet, netting a goal in the 61st minute following a pass from junior Bella Juliano, setting the score at 4-0.
- Muro tallied her second of the afternoon six minutes later to put the contest out of reach, 5-0.
- The home team got on the board in the 78th minute to come within four, before junior Madison Falkowski capped the afternoon with a goal in the final minute to clinch the Lions 6-1 victory.
Top Performances
- Muro totaled a career-high five points, scoring a career-high two goals and adding an assist.
- Strait and Perillo netted a goal for the second consecutive game with Strait leading the squad with seven shots and three shots on goal.
- Keenan and Falkowski picked up their first goal of the season.
- Juliano and junior Marissa Tonic collected an assist each.
- In goal, Muñoz made five saves.
