Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Molloy women's soccer team snapped their two-game skid Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Owls of Southern Connecticut State, 1-0, at John A. Darcy Field. Molloy improved to 4-6-1 on the campaign, while the Owls moved to 5-2-2.
Prior to the contest, the program celebrated the members of their senior class:
Elyse Muñoz (criminal justice),
Madison Keenan (speech-language pathology/audiology), and
Isabella Muro (speech-language pathology/audiology).
How it Happened
- After a possession battle kicked off the opening 10 minutes, junior Jana Strait cracked the scoreboard on the game's first shot, tucking her shot inside the right post following a feed from Ysabelle Perillo to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
- The first shot for the Owls came in the 19th minute following a free kick from 40 yards out, but Muñoz was there to make the save.
- Southern Connecticut threatened in the 26th minute after Gracie Sanders fired a shot with a head of steam at the top of the 18-yard box, but Muñoz was there to deny the chance.
- The road team continued to look for the equalizer in the 33rd minute. Following a pass to the right side of the 18-yard box, Elizabeth Bishop went for a hard angled shot with Muñoz making a comfortable save.
- With 1:44 to go in the first half, Maya Tellier sent in a ball that sailed over the head of Muñoz and grazed the crossbar just missing a game-tying goal as the contest would head into halftime with Molloy ahead, 1-0.
- The first two chances of the second half came from Molloy within the first 10 minutes. Strait took a free kick that was sent high before Perillo challenged with a shot that forced a save at the left post by Owls goalkeeper Mackenzi Pastreck.
- Southern Connecticut State generated a pair of scoring chances, 30 seconds apart in the 58th minute, but both shots would miss target.
- The 64th minute saw Bishop challenge Muñoz once again, looking to knot the score at one, but Munoz was there to make another save.
- In the 67th minute, junior Sarah Cavallo created space down the left side for a shot, but her attempt was saved.
- The road team came within inches of an equalizer in the 70th minute. Following a cross from the right wing, Jamie Greenman put it just wide of the far post.
- An unsettled ball inside the six-yard box created a chance for the Owls in the 77th minute, but Olivia Morrissette had her shot miss target.
- Molloy would hold Southern Connecticut State without a shot in the final 12 minutes of action sealing the victory, 1-0.

- Perillo dished out her third assist of the campaign.
- In goal, Munoz made four saves to collect her fourth shut out of the season.
