Women's Lacrosse Tops UDC

Washington, D.C. - The women's lacrosse team picked up its first East Coast Conference victory with a dominant 23-1 win over the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon.The Lions improve to 4-7 on the season with the victory and 1-2 in league play. 

How it Happened
  • Molloy opened the scoring off a free position goal from junior Brooke Grossjung, followed by back-to-back tallies from sophomore Carmeron Thompson. 
  • The Lions kept the home team off the scoreboard for the entire first quarter, putting up nine more goals from five different goal scorers to make it 12-0.
  • Senior Emma Brazier started the second frame off with back-to-back goals before the Firebirds broke the streak at 14-1. 
  • Brazier scored her sixth of the contest just two minutes later before goals from Thompson and freshman Sarah Minelli closed out the first half at 17-1. 
  • In the third quarter, freshman Jenna Italiano scored twice before freshman Peyton Naus added another to push the lead to 20-1 headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • Thompson, Naus and sophomore Tiana Barone each found the back of the net to round out the scoring.
Top Performances
  • Italiano had a career day, totaling nine points on five goals and four assists. 
  • Naus had a career-high three goals and five assists for an eight-point day. 
  • Brazier netted a career-high six goals. 
  • Thompson scored four goals while Grossjung and Minelli each had two goals and an assist.
  • Junior Laurette Schaumloffel dished out a career-best two assists.
  • Barone scored her first goal of the season while sophomore Maddy Agostino had her first assist.
  • Grossjung controlled five draws and forced two turnovers while sophomore Katie Kofod picked up two ground balls. 
  • Junior Samantha Heuer was forced to make just two saves in net.

The Lions step out of conference play for a match up against the Panthers of Adelphi University on Wednesday (Apr. 8) from Garden City, N.Y. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
