Women's Lacrosse Stumbles Against #14 Pace

Rockville Centre, N.Y.- The women's lacrosse team was defeated by the 14th-ranked Setters of Pace University this evening, 21-3. With the loss, the Lions drop to 5-10 on the season, and Pace improves to 12-4.

How it Happened
  • Pace struck first, with Annie Sheehan scoring just three minutes into the contest.
  • Sophomore Cameron Thompson evened the score at one two minutes later.
  • Maddie Schubert capitalized on a failed Molloy clear to give the Setters a 2-1 lead.
  • The visitors added two quick goals on the extra-man advantage to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • Junior goaltender Samantha Heuer made a stop on the doorstep with 37 seconds remaining in the first on a man-down situation.
  • Schubert sparked the visitors' offense to open the second, scoring just 12 seconds in before four different Setters added goals to push the lead to 9-1.
  • Junior Brooke Grossjung found senior Emma Brazier in front of the crease to cut the deficit to 9-2.
  • Pace responded with six unanswered goals, capitalizing on man-up and free position opportunities to take a 15-2 lead into halftime.
  • Mackenzie Carita opened the third with a free position goal. Pace finished the frame with three more goals, before opening the fourth with a tally from Katie Long.
  • Freshman Peyton Naus scored on a bouncing shot from the 8-meter to make it 20-3.
  • Laura Luikart capped the scoring in transition, securing a 21-3 victory for the Setters.
Top Performances
  • Brazier, Naus, and Thompson each found the back of the net this evening.
  • Grossjung dished out two assists.
  • Grossjung, and sophomores Tiana Barone, Maddy Agostino, and Ryleigh Zamora each caused a turnover.
  • Zamora controlled three draws.
  • Heuer made six saves in goal.
  • Junior Nicole Schaumloffel added two saves.
