Wilmington, Del. - The softball team picked up a 6-1 victory over the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College this afternoon from the Jackson Complex to salvage a split on the afternoon. The Lions fell in the first game of the doubleheader, 7-3, and now sit at 12-26 on the season.
Game One: GBC 7, Molloy 3
- The Lions quickly loaded the bases in the second inning on singles from juniors Mariah Cepeda and Stevie Dabbadie as well as a fielding error.Â
- Sophomore Casey Kissinger put the visitors ahead with a single up the middle before two more runs scored just one batter later following a fielding error from the Lightning shortstop.Â
- A lead-off double from Emily Smith in the bottom half of the inning allowed the home team to score on a fielding error from Molloy. Two more singles followed before Ayri Hansen plated two runs with a single up the middle to knot the score.Â
- GBC's run was capped off with an RBI double from Bri Cole to make it 4-3.Â
- Hansen added another RBI single in the fourth inning before pinch hitter Rayna Pelcak plated two runs with a single down the right field line to round out the scoring.Â
- The Molloy offense struggled after the second inning, putting just two runners on base through the final five innings at bat.Â
Game Two: Molloy 6, GBC 1
- After two scoreless innings opened the contest, the Lions scored five runs on four hits in the third.Â
- Sophomore Hannah Definis kicked things off with a single down the left field line. An infield single from redshirt sophomore Alexis Montgomery and a fielding error loaded the bases for the Lions.Â
- Freshman Skyler Secondino singled to left field for the first run of the afternoon.Â
- A bases-loaded hit by pitch followed by a wild pitch allowed two more runs to score before a single down the right field line from Dabbadie cleared the bases and made it 5-0.
- Secondino doubled in the fifth inning before scoring on a double from freshman Alyssa Bueno to round out Molloy's offense.Â
- The Lightning managed just four hits through the first five innings before a walk and back-to-back outfield singles allowed them to get on the board.Â
- Montgomery (3-for-4) and Bueno (3-for-3) led the way for the Lions, with Bueno driving in two runs.Â
- Secondino had two hits while Dabbadie had two RBI.Â
