Baseball Falls to Bentley

Boca Raton, Fla. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Bentley Falcons, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Lynn University. The Lions move to 5-4 on the campaign, while the Falcons improve to 6-4.

How it Happened
  • Bentley threatened in the top of the first inning, loading the bases with one away. Redshirt junior Mike Knapp was able to escape the jam, ending the frame with a fly out and ground out.
  • Following a scoreless second inning, the Lions got on the board in the bottom of the third after senior Sean Welsh plated junior Brian Sanchez with a double to open the scoring, 1-0.
  • Bentley responded in the top of the fourth, jumping ahead, 2-1, after a two-run double from Curt Heath.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the cardinal and white moved the tying run to third with two outs. Following an intentional walk to Welsh, the Falcons scurried out of the jam with an inning ending ground out to stay in front.
  • The contest would remain at 2-1 entering the eighth inning as both team combined for just three baserunners combined in the sixth and seventh, respectively.
  • The Falcons broke the game open in the eighth, rallying for four runs. Heath tripled home a run, a run scored following a single, and the inning was capped by a two-run home run to open the Bentley lead, 6-1.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, the Lions loaded the bases with one away in search for their breakout inning to close the gap. Bentley would be able to escape the bases loaded situation, finishing the inning with a fielders choice that forced a runner out at the plate and a strikeout.
  • Molloy would get a pair of runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but to no avail as the Falcons would go on to close the victory, 6-1.
