Women's Lacrosse Stumbles at Southern New Hampshire

Hooksett, N.H.- The women's lacrosse team fell to Southern New Hampshire, 18-6, this afternoon at Ouellette Stadium. With the loss, the Lions drop down to 1-3, and the Penmen improve to 2-2 on the season.
 
How it Happened
  • Southern New Hampshire cracked the scoreboard first with a goal from Piper Knowlton 44 seconds into the contest.
  • Sophomore Cameron Thompson dished out a pass to senior Emma Brazier three minutes later to level the score at one.
  • The Penmen capitalized on two free position opportunities and a man-up advantage to take a 4-1 lead. In the final 30 seconds of the first frame, Abby Bouffard pushed the lead to 5-1.
  • Freshman Peyton Naus scored off a free position opportunity of her own early in the second quarter to cut the deficit to three.
  • Southern New Hampshire went on a run of five unanswered goals to make it 10-2 heading into halftime.
  • The home team kicked off the third frame with an early goal from Natalie Bosselman. Three more Penmen would find the back of the net before sophomore Ava Benasutti scored on a man up opportunity to make it 14-3.
  • Kailyn Cuddahy added a goal in the final minute of the third quarter to give the home team a 15-3 advantage going into the final frame.
  • Freshman Jenna Italiano opened the fourth quarter with a free position goal to break the streak.
  • Southern New Hampshire answered with three-straight goals, two coming on the man-up, to extend the lead to 18-4.
  • Benasutti netted her second of the game with just over five minutes remaining in the contest. Freshman Sam Cossaro added a late tally in the final minute to round out the scoring 18-6.

  • Benasutti led the offense with two goals on four shots.
  • Brazier, Italiano, Coassaro, and Naus each added a goal.
  • Junior Nicole Schaumloffel made seven saves in net.
  • Thompson dished out an assist.
  • Junior Brooke Grossjung picked up three ground balls.
  • Junior Samantha Heuer made a total of six stops in net.

The Lions are back on the road on Wednesday (Mar. 11) for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Tigers of Holy Family.
