Baseball Opens Boca Raton Weekend with Victory over Post

Boca Raton, Fla. – Returning to the diamond for the first time in 13 days, the Molloy baseball team defeated the Post University Eagles, 11-1, in seven innings Friday afternoon at Lynn University. Following the triumph, the Lions improve to 4-3 on the season while the Eagles move to 5-9.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Lions cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the second after a solo home run from sophomore Steve Mulqueen.

  • In the bottom of the third, junior Mike Sweeney connected for a two-run home run as part of a three-run inning to push Molloy back in front, 4-1.
  • Molloy added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Jack Coogan ripped a single through the left side to open the lead to four, 5-1.
  • The cardinal and white added three runs with two outs on the board to break the game open, 8-1, in the sixth. Junior Sean Welsh singled to score Sweeney and Coogan plated a pair with a double into right-center field.
  • Molloy capped the contest with three runs in the seventh. After a run scored following a wild pitch, junior Brian Sanchez doubled into the right center gap to plate a pair of runs to finish off the victory, 11-1.
  • The contest was scheduled for nine innings, but due to an agreed upon run rule after seven innings during pregame, the game would end following the seventh.
