Melbourne, Fla. - The softball team fell in both contests today at the Space Coast Spring Games, dropping a 6-5 decision to Lewis before falling 11-1 in five innings to Post. Molloy sits at 3-11 on the season headed into the final two games of the spring break trip tomorrow morning.
Game One: Lewis 6, Molloy 5
- The Lions batted through the entire order in the top of the first innings for one of the hottest offensive starts of the season. Senior Mae Savage kicked things off with a triple, followed by a walk and stolen base from senior Emily McGurk.Â
- Junior Stevie Dabbadie laced a well-placed triple down the right field line to clear the bases before a single from sophomore Gwen Woodsit made it 3-0 in favor of Molloy.Â
- The Flyers were able to tie the game in the second inning with a single from Morgan Spodarek, a double from Teagan Berkshire, and sacrifice fly from Erica Hoffman.Â
- Back-to-back triples led off the bottom of the fourth for Lewis to give them a 4-3 lead before a fielder's choice plated another run.
- It would be Molloy's turn to knot the score in the sixth inning. Singles from junior Mariah Cepeda and redshirt sophomore Alexis Montgomery set the table for a two-run single to right field from McGurk to make it 5-5.Â
- Dabbadie gave up a lead-off triple in the bottom half of the inning, but retired the next three batters in order to keep the game knotted.Â
- Molloy was unable to manage a base runner in the seventh, and fell victim to back-to-back doubles, including the game-winner from Hoffman in the home half of the inning.
- Savage (2-for-4), Woodsit (2-for-4) and Cepeda (2-for-3) led the way offensively.Â
- Dabbadie and McGurk each drove in two runs with McGurk adding two stolen bases.
- Freshman Ava Zicchinelli struck out two through seven innings in the start. Dabbadie allowed just the one run on three hits in three innings of relief.
Game Two: Post 11, Molloy 1 (5 innings)
- Molloy would plate the first run of the game on an RBI single up the middle from Woodsit.Â
- Post immediately responded by scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the second.Â
- The Eagles added two runs on a double from Sydney Jones in the third before scoring on a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to make it 8-1.
- An RBI single from Alexandra Bisceglia and a two-run triple from Nyla Sapia made it 11-1 in the fifth to round out the scoring.
- Woodsit had a 2-for-2 afternoon at the plate with the RBI. Zicchnelli and Cepeda accounted for the remaining Lions hits.Â
- Freshman Skyler Secondino struck out a career-high four batters in the loss.Â
