Softball Opens Spring Break Series with Split

Melbourne, Fla. - The softball team kicked off the 2026 Space Coast Spring Games this afternoon with a 1-1 performance, improving to 2-6 on the season. The Lions fell late to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce, 3-1, to start the morning before rallying from behind against Saint Anselm to a 5-1 victory.

Game One: Franklin Pierce 3, Molloy 1
  • The Lions' offense continued to get a jump start, scoring first for the fifth time this season. Senior Mae Savage drew a lead-off walk on four pitches before a wild pitch moved her into scoring position.
  • The second baseman scored from second on a fielding error two batters later to get Molloy on the board.
  • The Ravens' bats also went right to work, putting runners on first and second following a lead-off single and a hit by a pitch. Delaney Duford's outfield single tied the game, but sophomore center fielder Megan Wegel hit junior catcher Mariah Cepeda, who was able to fire down to senior Emily McGurk at third base to get an out and limit the damage.
  • Both teams struggled to get runners on base before FPU broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. A single put a runner on for Georgia Clough, who doubled to left field and allowed a run to cross the plate, breaking the stalemate.
  • Back-to-back singles paired with defensive miscues in the fifth inning added an insurance run for the Ravens.
  • The Lions left two runners stranded in both the sixth and seventh innings off a single from sophomore Gwen Woodsit, a walk to Wegel, a single from redshirt junior Alexis Montgomery, and a double from Savage.
  • Woodist led the team with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a double.
  • Freshman Ava Zicchnielli threw a complete game, striking out four batters and allowing just one earned run on six hits.
Game Two: Molloy 5, Saint Anselm 1
  • The teams would combine for just four total base runners through the opening two innings of play with both defenses opening the game with double plays in the first inning.
  • A lead-off walk to Lily Mason followed by a sacrifice bunt helped the Hawks' left fielder be in position to score on a wild pitch to put Saint Anselm on the board in the third inning.
  • The defensive battle would continue into the fifth inning, where the Lions exploded for five runs on five hits to take the lead.
  • Zicchinelli picked up her first collegiate hit, plating a run with a triple to left center field, to kick off the run for Molloy.
  • Savage brought home two more runs with an outfield single. Three more singles would follow from McGurk, junior Stevie Dabbadie, and Woodsit brought home two more runs to make it 5-1.
  • Freshman Skyler Secondino retired six of the final seven batters of the game for her first collegiate win. On the afternoon, Secondino allowed the one earned run on five hits while striking out two in a complete game.
  • Savage went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Woodsit also tallied two RBI in a 1-for-3 afternoon. Montgomery went 2-for-3.
