Stroudsburg, Pa. - The softball team returned to action yesterday against the RV East Stroudsburg, falling 10-0 in five innings before holdign the Warriors to just two runs in the second game. The Lions sit at 1-5 before heading down to Florida for the United States Space Coast Spring Games later this week while ESU improved to 9-5.
Game One: ESU 10, Molloy 0 (Five Innings)
- The Warriors were first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead in the home half of the first inning on three singles and a walk.
- Two costly errors in the bottom of the third inning helped the home team plate seven runs.
- A bases-loaded double rounded out the scoring in the fourth inning rounded out the scoring in the fourth inning.
- For Molloy, senior Mae Savage and sophomores Gwen Woodsit and Casey Kissinger each recorded a hit.
- Freshman Ava Zicchinelli went 2.1 innings, striking out two and allowing just the one earned run in the loss.
Game Two: ESU 2, Molloy 1
- The second game would be scoreless through four innings. The Lions put four runners on base, including a single from senior Emily McGurk putting Savage just 60 feet from home.
- The Warriors threatened in the bottom half of the third, loading the bases on two walks and a single before freshman Skyler Secondino forced a ground out to keep the game scoreless.
- Molloy broke through in the fifth inning following back-to-back singles from Kissinger and Montgomery. Savage reached on a fielder's choice to put Kissinger on third. A single from McGurk scored Kissinger to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
- ESU plated two runs in the home half of the inning on three-straight singles that would ultimately be the difference in the game.
- McGurk went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Kissinger had two hits while Savage, Montgomery, junior Mariah Cepeda, and sophomore Megan Wegel each had one.
- Secondino tossed a complete game, allowing just six hits.
