Flushing, N.Y. - The women's basketball team completed the season sweep of the Knights of Queens College this evening, winning 78-53. The victory sets Molloy at 8-13 on the season and 6-4 in East Coast Conference play while Queens drops to 6-16 (3-8 ECC).
How it Happened
- A fast break three-pointer from senior Sophia Yearwood kicked off the game's scoring, but the home Knights responded with an eight-point run to lead, 8-3.Â
- Layups from senior Colleen McCullagh and freshman Sharmeela Ugbogbo helped to keep Molloy within one possession, but consecutive three-pointers from Queens put them ahead by as much as seven headed into the final two minutes.Â
- Not to be outdone, Yearwood and sophomore Grace Trotta both sunk three-pointers of their own before a layup from McCullagh brought the Lions back within two, 19-17, to end the frame.Â
- The score would be tied four times in the second quarter, but ultimately another layup from McCullagh gave the visitors the two-point advantage headed into halftime, 31-29.
- 13 of Molloy's 24 third quarter points would come as a response to Knights' turnovers, helping the score break out to as much as a 19-point lead. Yearwood would score 10 points in the third quarter followed by eight from McCullagh.Â
-  Fueled by an 11-2 run in the fourth quarter, the lead would increase to as much as 27 before the final buzzer sounded.
Top Performances
- McCullagh's 24 points paced all scorers, going 10-of-21 from the floor, while adding nine rebounds.Â
- Yearwood followed with 22 points, including five three-pointers, to go with six assists and four boards.Â
- Senior Rosa Rizzitelli had a double-double with 10 assists and 10 rebounds, adding a team-leading four steals and eight points.Â
- Ugbogbo topped the scoresheet with 14 rebounds and three blocks.
- Trotta's 10 points rounded out the top scorers while sophomore Jamie Davneiro added seven points, four assists, and three steals.Â
