Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce, 4-2, Saturday morning on Ebbets Field at the Ripkin Experience. The Lions move to 3-3 on the season, while the Ravens improve to 2-6.
How it Happened
- The Lions struck in the top of the first after senior Sean Welsh brought in junior Mike Sweeney with a ground out.
- Franklin Pierce plated two runs in the bottom of the second following an error to pull in front, 2-1.
- Molloy threatened in the top of the fourth loading the bases with one out, but the Ravens would scurry out of it ending the inning with a strikeout and line out to keep the Lions off the board.
- The cardinal and white knotted the contest at two in the top of the fifth. Just as in the first, Welsh ripped a single into center field that brought in Sweeney.
- The Ravens wasted little time, regaining the lead in the bottom of the frame, 3-2, following an RBI groundout.
- In the top of the sixth, the Lions were able to put two runners on with two away with the game-tying run 90 feet away. Once again Franklin Pierce got out of the jam, after junior Brian Sanchez was robbed of a base hit by a diving play by the left fielder to keep the Ravens in front.
- The bottom of the eighth saw Franklin Pierce add an insurance run with a solo home run to increase their lead, 4-2.
- In the top of the ninth, Molloy would put runners on first and third with one out in search to tie the contest, but the Ravens would close the door ending the contest with a strikeout and ground out to secure the 4-2 triumph.
