Hynes Scores in Men’s Soccer Draw at SCSU

New Haven, Conn. – For the third consecutive game, the Molloy men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the Owls of Southern Connecticut State Tuesday evening at James Moore Field House. As a result, the Lions sit at 4-2-6 on the campaign, while the Owls move to 3-3-6.

How it Happened
  • The first chance of the night came from junior Brennan Murphy in the ninth minute when he fired a shot high of target.
  • Molloy's offense continued to generate pressure in the 11th minute. Junior Charlie Morgan had his shot saved before senior Yahel Caudillo Paramo followed up with a shot that missed target.
  • The Lions defense surrendered their first chance in the 28th minute when SCSU forward Jimmy Choi had his shot sail high.
  • Southern Connecticut State tallied their first scoring chance in the 37th minute forcing junior goalkeeper Callum Hunt to make a save.
  • Seconds later, senior Diego Cadena played a through ball down the right side to senior Jack Hynes, who beat the goalkeeper off his line and found the back of the net to give the Lions a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Owls got straight to work in the second half, with two shots in the first 55 seconds from Giancarlo Ciotoli. Hunt would make a first save on Ciotoli before saving his rebounds moments later to keep the Lions in front.
  • The 55th minute saw the home team continue to apply pressure to Hunt with another shot to challenge the goalkeeper, but Hunt would deny it.
  • Through the next 15 minutes, the cardinal and white would collect the only shot between the two teams from sophomore Cesar Chavez.
  • The contest turned in the 82nd minute. After a yellow card on the Lions following a trip inside the 18-yard box, the Owls were awarded a penalty kick.
  • Agustsson Gisli stepped to the penalty spot and was able to convert, bringing the contest back to all-square, 1-1.
  • Neither team would muster a high-quality scoring chance in the final eight minutes, ending the contest in a draw.
