Rochester, N.Y.- It took just over 71 minutes of game time to decide a winner in today's field hockey contest against Roberts Wesleyan, but a goal in the first minute of double overtime decided the contest in favor of the Redhawks. With the result, the Lions move to 1-1, while the Redhawks improve to 2-0.
How it Happened
- Roberts Wesleyan's Gabby Croniser set the tone early, firing off a shot in the opening minute of play, but sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Balsamo came up with the save.
- The Lions earned a corner in the final four minutes of the first frame but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
- Senior Catherine Amini had a chance in the second quarter, but her shot went wide.
- Balsamo recorded her second save of the game in the 25th minute, closing out the first half.
- Just five minutes into the second half, the home team on the scoreboard forced four consecutive corners, but the Lions' defense held strong, allowing only one shot.
- Molloy generated a corner opportunity of its own late in the fourth quarter, where junior Farah Amarando's shot sailed just wide of the net.
- The Lions continued to press in the final minutes of regulation, earning two more corners, but were unable to break through, sending the contest into overtime.
