Balsamo Makes Career-Best 29 Saves Against Pace

Uniondale, N.Y.- The field hockey team battled against Pace University this afternoon but came up short in a 2-0 loss. The Lions drop to 1-7 (0-4 NE10), and the Setters improve to 3-6, (3-2 NE10).

How it Happened
  • The Setters came out firing in the first quarter, taking a total of 11 shots on goal.
  • Early in the second frame, sophomore Catherine Sasso came up with a key defensive save to keep the game scoreless.
  • Pace broke through in the 18th minute of play when Sydney Sims scored off a rebound from Kyleigh Kearney, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Balsamo tallied six saves in the second quarter, holding the deficit to one heading into halftime.
  • In the third, the Lions' defense held strong, denying four Pace corner opportunities to keep the score within reach.
  • Sims struck again in the fourth quarter, doubling the visitors' lead to 2-0.
  • Balsamo capped her performance with two final saves in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

  • Balsamo made a career-high 29 saves in goal.
  • Sasso made her third defensive save of the season.
