Five Goal Scorers Lead Women’s Soccer Past Georgian Court

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team got everyone involved Saturday afternoon with five players finding their way onto the stat sheet in today's 5-0 victory over Georgian Court at John A. Darcy Field. Following the victory, the Lions sit at 4-2-2 on the campaign, while Georgian Court moves to 0-6.
 
How it Happened
  • The first shot on goal came from Molloy in the 13th minute when sophomore Jana Strait had her shot saved.
  • Four minutes later, junior goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz denied Georigan Courts first shot on net with a save.
  • The cardinal and white put together immense pressure in the 20th and 21st minute, putting together three shots in a 1:15 span. Junior Isabella Muro, freshman Angelina Rodriguez, and Strait all had chances to score, but Georgian Court goalie Brooke McKown made three consecutive saves.
  • The home team broke through in the 30th minute. Rodriguez played a through ball and found junior Olivia Ingenito who buried the shot into the back of the net to put Molloy ahead, 1-0.
  • Ingenito threatened in the 42nd minute with a chance to extend the lead, but her shot would squeak by the far post, sending the contest into halftime with Molloy in front, 1-0.
  • It took Molloy 3:10 into the second half to extend its lead. Senior Abigail Smith sent a cross into the box from the left side and found the right foot of graduate student Emma Beattie who finished to open the lead, 2-0.
  • In the 61st and 64th , Georgian Court looked to cut the lead in half, but Muñoz would make a pair of commanding saves to keep the game at bay.
  • In the 79th minute, Smith found Muro who would illude a defender and fire a shot that found the back of the net extending the lead, 3-0.
  • Five minutes later, Strait made two moves to get the ball onto her right foot and fired a shot that hit the inside of the right post and into the net to bring the contest to 4-0.
  • Molloy would cap the game with one more goal in the 88th minute. enior Mikaela Barriga netted a goal following a rebound to seal the victory, 5-0.
Top Performances
  • Ingenito netted her sixth goal of the season while collecting four shots with two coming on goal.
  • Strait scored her third goal of the season and led the squad with seven shots including three on goal.
  • Barriga, Beattie, and Muro tallied their second goals of the season.
  • Smith handed out two assists, marking her first points of her collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Giuliana Arrigo picked up her first career assist and Rodriguez totaled her second helper of the season.
  • In goal, Muñoz made three saves to pick up her fourth shutout of the season.

The cardinal and white will travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. for a non-conference matchup at Pace Tuesday, September 30. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
