Game Recap: Sprint Football |

History Made! Sprint Football Wins First-Ever Game, 16-6

Uniondale, N.Y. - For the first time in program-history, the Molloy sprint football team walked away victorious. The Lions opened the home portion of the 2025 schedule with a definitive 16-6 win over the Big Red of Cornell University. Molloy improves to 1-1 on the season while Cornell falls to 0-2.

How it Happened
  • The Lions started with the ball and put together a drive that lasted 15 plays and spanned nearly eight minutes of game clock.
  • Rushes from sophomore Marquis Dixon and junior Paulie Drummond V got a first down for the Lions before a 28 yard pass from Drummond to freshman Jalen Gordon put Molloy in Cornell territory.
  • Facing third and goal, Drummond then connected with senior Peter von Schoenermarck to bring the Lions to the one-yard line.
  • A false start backed up the offense on fourth down, bringing sophomore Timmy Stosko to the field for a 16-yard field goal. His successful kick put Molloy ahead 3-0.
  • The defense made quick work of the Big Red, allowing them just four pays for negative yards before putting the ball back in the hands of the offense with just under five minutes left in the first quarter.
  • Molloy was able to get within the Cornell 20, but turned the ball over on downs.
  • The Cornell offense once again had limited time on the field to work, holding the ball for less than 90 seconds of game time following two ineffective rushes and an incomplete pass.
  • The Lions started the next drive at the Cornell 33 before three runs from Drummond brought them inside the 20.
  • A 17-yard completion to von Schoenermarck set up a first and goal situation for the Lions, eventually leading to a one-yard touchdown run from Drummond to make it 9-0.
  • The Big Red blocked the extra point attempt, but followed up with another three and out to hand the ball right back to Molloy deep in Cornell territory.
  • On third and 11, Drummond connected with von Schoenermarck again, this time finding the receiver in the end zone to make it a 15-0 contest. Stosko added the extra point to set the score at 16-0 with just under two minutes to play in the half.
  • Stefano Luis completed three passes for double digit yardage to bring the Big Red within the Molloy 10-yard line before a rushing touchdown from Enmanuel Garcia put Cornell on the board.
  • The visitors went for a two-point conversion with 37 seconds to play in the half, but the pass failed to keep it at 16-6 as the teams went to the locker room.
  • Both teams had two possessions in the third quarter, but neither were able to score.
  • With 8:30 remaining in the contest, the Big Red mounted a drive that brought them to first and goal at the Molloy five-yard line.
  • Cornell was able to get within inches of the goal line, but clutch tackles from sophomores Joseph Spano and Max Kraemer and senior John Zarnowski, and freshman Anthony Stanco and Ayden Das turned the Big Red away empty handed and maintained Molloy's 10-point lead.
  • The Lions got the ball back on their own one-yard line with just over 3:30 left to play. a 33-yard run from Drummond set the offense up to be able to take a knee on the final two plays of the game to earn the victory.
