Volleyball Soars Past Felician in Three Sets

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team concluded a seven-game home stretch to open the 2025 season with a three-set sweep over the Golden Falcons of Felician University. The Lions sit at 6-1 after the first two weeks of the campaign, with the lone loss coming to a top-25 team. The loss sets Felician at 1-4.

How it Happened
  • The Lions took advantage of a four-point run to lead 13-7 in the first set. The run saw a service ace from senior Ilaria Micol Chiericati and two kills from sophomore Isabella Rios
  • Molloy maintained the advantage and scored kills from junior Erin Stanley (2), freshman Haven Trechter, graduate student Julia Zalta, and Rios. 
  • The second set remained a back-and-forth affair throughout the entirety. The set would be tied four times before a run of three points put the home team in front, 13-9. 
  • The Golden Falcons remained within striking distance, spending much of the later half of the set within one or two points, including a three-point run to make it 24-22, before a kill from Rios clinched the set for the Lions.
  • An 8-3 run to start the final set, including three-straight aces from junior Hayden Riddle, gave Molloy an early advantage that Felician would be unable to overcome. The Lions attacked at a .500 clip and allowed just six kills in the set fr.om the opposition. 
Top Performances
  • Molloy attacked at a season-best .326 on the afternoon with three hitters averaging over .400.
  • Rios led the team with 11 kills and added five digs.
  • Trechter follow with 10 kills to go with 10 digs four her second-straight double-double.
  • Zalta rounded out the top scorers with eight kills while leading with 20 assists and adding two aces.
  • Riddle set a career-high four aces on the afternoon and also had a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs.

Molloy will compete on the road for the first time in 2025 on Tuesday (Sept. 16) as they take on Pace University at 7:00 p.m. from Pleasantville, N.Y.
