Austin, Texas – For the first time in Molloy baseball history junior
Sean Welsh was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American First Team.
Welsh becomes the 15
th student-athlete in Molloy history to be named an Academic All-American by the CSC. The East Meadow native is one of two Academic All-Americans for the Lions in 2024-25, joining women's soccer sophomore Madison Keenan.
The Academic All-America program recognizes the achievement of student-athletes in the classroom and on their field of play. Welsh, a finance major, garners the highest GPA (3.92) of all First Team selections, is the only member of the East Region on the First Team, and is one of two student-athletes from the East Region named to an All-America team. The designated hitter helped the baseball team clinch its fourth East Coast Conference title in the last five seasons in 2025.
On the field this season the junior collected a multitude of awards. Welsh collected a Third Team All-American honor from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings, becoming one of three designated hitters in the nation to earn All-American. The designated hitter was named All-ECC First Team after topping the conference with 15 home runs and 62 RBI, setting single-season Molloy records. Hitting in the lead off spot Welsh flaunted his speed, pacing the ECC with 73 runs scored and 29 stolen bases while hitting .338 alongside 72 hits.
Recently, Welsh was named the East Coast Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year adding this to his mantle of First Team All-Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and ABCA/Rawlings.
