Women's Lacrosse Bests Caldwell for Fourth-Straight Win

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team picked up its fourth-straight win this afternoon with a 19-4 victory over Caldwell University. Molloy improved to 5-8 on the season while Caldwell fell to 1-10.

How it Happened
  • The first quarter belonged exclusively to the Lions. After losing the opening draw, the Lions quickly capitalized on a turnover and maintained possession for nearly the entire first half.
  • Freshman Ava Benasutti got things started for Molloy less than two minutes into the contest with a goal.
  • After another six minutes of game time, senior Brenna Signorelli would score twice within two minutes to make it 3-0.
  • Freshman Emma Ryan would score less than 30 seconds later before Signorelli notched a hat trick just 12 minutes into the contest.
  • Goals from seniors Sofia Quitoni and Megan Rugolo made it 7-0 Lions after one quarter.
  • Molloy had a near-flawless second quarter, allowing a goal from Meghan Korzevinski in the final two minutes of the half. Benasutti Ryan and Rugolo each added their second of the contest while senior Alexa Amorison and sophomore Brooke Grossjung also found the back of the net to make it 12-1 at the break.
  • The Lions netted five goals in the third quarter to increase the lead to 17-1.
  • Juniors Emma Brazier and Olivia Ingenito both scored in the fourth quarter to round out the Molloy offense.
  • Caldwell would score three goals in the final 10 minutes to make it 19-4.
Top Performances
  • Rugolo had six points to lead the team on an even three goals and three assists. The senior also topped the squad with six ground balls and three caused turnovers while adding three draw controls.
  • Amorison, Signorelli, Benasutti, and Ryan each had three points while Grossjung and Quitoni added two.
  • Goals from Brazier and Ingenito gave each a point while senior Isabella Klemm had an assist.
  • Grossjung picked up a career-high five ground balls and had two caused turnovers.
  • Amorison and senior Carly Howell leach had four ground balls and combined for five caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Ryleigh Zamora led with a career-high 10 draw controls.
  • Sophomore Nicole Schaumloffel made three saves in net.

Molloy will be on the road on Saturday (Apr. 12) as they face Daemen University in a contest crucial for postseason seeding at 3:00 p.m.
