Men's Lacrosse Tops Frostburg State, 7-6

Frostburg, Md. - For just the second time in the rivalry's history, the #18 men's lacrosse team topped the Bobcats of Frostburg State, 7-6. The win puts Molloy at 10-3 on the season and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play. This is first double digit win season for the Lions since 2016 with four games left to play in the regular season. Frostburg sits at 6-6 (3-1 ECC) following the loss.

How it Happened
  • Frostburg won the opening face-off and took a 1-0 lead less than one minute into the contest.
  • Nearly 10 minutes would go by without a goal before junior Tommy Corcoron knotted the score for the Lions.
  • In the final seconds of the opening frame, junior Nick Taiani found the back of the net to put the Lions in front.
  • Senior Bryan Diliberto scored in the opening 30 seconds of the second quarter before senior Mike D'Amato made it a three-goal cushion just three minutes later.
  • Frostburg would score once in the second quarter to make it a 4-2 deficit at the half.
  • A goal from Seamus Kearney brought the home team within one early in the third quarter but junior Brian Green's goal with 2:08 on the clock regained the lead for the Lions.
  • Luke Aspnes would score in the final minute of play for the Bobcats, but senior Luke Hickam netted one of his own to keep the deficit at two headed into the final quarter.
  • Frostburg would score twice in the opening four minutes to tie the contest at six with 11 minutes to play.
  • Junior Brandon Pazienza won the resulting face-off and Green was able to score what would become the game-winning goal less than one minute later.
  • The Bobcats attempted five shots in the final 10 minutes, but the Molloy defense remained strong, led by two saves from senior Christian Michaels and caused turnovers from junior Thomas Kofod and freshman Liam Taylor to walk away with the win.
Top Performances
  • Green's two goals and Diliberto's goal and assist led the offense with two points.
  • Sophomore Michael McClain and senior Jack Herzlinger also picked up assists in the effort.
  • Taylor matched a career-high six ground balls while forcing a career-high four turnovers, leading the Lions in both categories.
  • Green, Hickam, and Pazienza each added three ground balls.
  • Juniors Jaden McLeod and Shawn McCabe as well as freshman Aiden Dinnigan all forced two turnovers.
  • Micheals made 14 saves in net.

Molloy will remain on the road next week as they take on Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday (Apr. 12) at 12:00 p.m. from Rochester, N.Y.
