Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The softball team dropped a pair against Mercy University this afternoon at Bob Klein Field, 5-0 in game one, and 6-3 in game two. The losses drop the Lions to 18-28 (10-8 ECC), while the Mavericks improve to 22-18 (12-6 ECC).
Before the doubleheader, the program recognized its two members of the senior class:
Natalie Moussa (biology pre-med), and
Cheralyn Dusharme (marketing) in a senior day ceremony.
Game One: Mercy 5, Molloy 0
How it Happened
- The Mavericks' bats went right to work in game one, with Allison Murphy hitting a lead off double to start the top of the first inning. Mia Harris followed with a single to center field, advancing to second on the throw while Murphy moved to third. Both runners scored on a pair of fielding errors, giving Mercy an early 2-0 lead.
- Averi Miller doubled to right field to start the top of the second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Madilyn Lula hit an RBI triple to center field to push the lead to 3-0. Lula attempted to steal home later in the inning but was thrown out to keep the deficit at three.
- In the fourth, Lula added a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
- Senior Natalie Moussa struck out two batters in the fifth and then shut down the Mavericks in order in the sixth.
- In the bottom of the sixth, freshman Megan Wegel broke up Skylar Brandemarte's perfect game with a single down the left field line. Junior Emily McGurk reached on a fielder's choice, but the Lions couldn't capitalize.
- Murphy capped off the scoring with a solo home run to left field in the seventh, sealing the 5-0 victory.

- Moussa tossed five innings in relief, striking out five batters.
- Wegel went 1-for-2 at the plate.
- Dusharme caught two runners stealing.
- Sophomore Stevie Dabbadie added two strikeouts over two innings of work.
Game Two: Mercy 6, Molloy 3
How it Happened
- The Mavericks struck early in game two as Allison Murphy led off with a double down the left field line, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Victoria Seppala's ground out to the short stop.
- In the second, Miller doubled to center field and advanced to third on a passed ball before Lula walked and stole second. Dylan Reyer then tripled down the left field line, extending the Mavericks' lead to 3-0.
- Moussa kept the Lions in the game by retiring six straight batters over the next two innings.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Dabbadie singled up the middle before sophomore Mariah Cepeda reached on a fielder's choice, moving Dabbadie to second.
- Wegel followed with an RBI double to left center, scoring Dabbadie and advancing pinch runner Casey Kissinger to third.
- Redshirt freshman Alexis Montgomery then singled up the middle to bring Kissinger home and advanced to second on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly from junior Mae Savage tied the game at three.
- In the top of the fifth, Reyer singled and stole second, but a diving catch by Savage ended the threat and kept the game tied.
- Keira Jantz broke the tie with a two-run home run in the sixth, and Mercy tacked on an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single up the middle, making it a 6-3 contest heading into the bottom of the inning.
- With two outs in the final frame, freshman pinch hitter Gwen Woodsit singled to left field and Moussa followed with a single through the right side. McGurk, running for Woodsit, advanced to third on a throwing error, but the Lions were unable to complete the comeback.
