Softball Splits Conference Doubleheader with CSI

Staten Island, N.Y. – The softball team split a conference doubleheader this afternoon at the CSI Softball Complex, falling game one 4-3 before taking game two 7-1. With the split, the Lions move to 17-23 overall and 10-4 in ECC play, while the Dolphins stand at 18-18 overall and 6-10 in the conference. With the victory, Molloy has earned a spot in the 2025 East Coast Conference Tournament.

Game One: CSI 4, Molloy 3
How it Happened
  • Redshirt freshman Alexis Montgomery drew a walk to start the game, and senior Natalie Moussa brought her home with a double to right center in the top of the first.
  • Senior Cheralyn Dusharme followed with a solo home run to center field, putting Molloy up 2-0.
  • In the second, junior Emily McGurk walked and stole second. Sophomore Amaya Page was hit by a pitch, and junior Mae Savage worked a walk to load the bases.
  • The Lions forced an early exit from CSI pitcher Alexis Miramontes before Montgomery drew a bases loaded walk, extending the lead to 3-0.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, Staten Island responded with two walks and a single to load the bases. A hit-by-pitch forced in a run, cutting Molloy's lead to 3-1.
  • The Dolphins tied it up in the fifth after singles from Mariah Carcano and Amanda Stalker set up Aileen Balderas for a two-run single.
  • A walk and a single moved Balderas to third, where she scored on Bridget Motley's fielder's choice, giving CSI a 4-3 advantage.
  • Staten Island's defense held strong in the final two innings, allowing no hits to secure the win.
Top Performances
  • Dusharme recorded two hits, including her third home run of the season and an RBI.
  • Moussa finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
  • Montgomery recorded an RBI.
  • McGurk swiped one bag.
 
Game Two: Molloy 7, CSI 1 
How it Happened
  • The Lions came out strong in the top of the first with a pair of singles from Montgomery and Moussa. Dusharme reached on a fielding error, allowing Montgomery to score.
  • Dabbadie doubled to left field driving in two more runs to give Molloy an early 3-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the first, Anissa Acosta reached on a walk, but freshman shortstop Casey Kissinger turned a double play to Dabbadie at first base. Moussa forced a pop-up to second to end the inning.
  • Kissinger led off the second with a walk and stole second. Page followed with a single down the left field line to bring in Molloy's fourth run.
  • In the fourth, Page opened the inning with a double down the right field line, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on Savage's sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
  • Staten Island plated its lone run in the bottom half after a single and a walk put two on. Amanda Stalker tagged up to third on a fly out to right field and scored on a grounder to third, trimming the lead to 5-1.
  • Moussa fanned three straight batters in the bottom of the fifth and surrendered just one walk in the sixth.
  • In the seventh, Montgomery singled to third and moved to third on Moussa's double to center field. Both would score on a wild pitch and a defensive misplay, extending the lead to 7-1.
  • Staten Island saw a pair of walks in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to capitalize, sealing the Lions 10th conference win of the season.
Top Performances
  • Sophomore Mariah Cepeda went 2-for-4 at the plate with a career-high two doubles.
  • Page, Moussa, and Montgomery each recorded two hits with Page adding an RBI.
  • Dabbadie contributed a two-run double.
  • Moussa tossed a complete game, striking out two.
  • Kissinger added a walk and a stolen base.
 
Up Next
The Lions will take on the Mercy University Mavericks for the first time this season on Monday (Apr. 21) at 2:30 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
