#17 Men's Lacrosse Sets Win Record in Senior Day Triumph, 29-3

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The No. 17 men's lacrosse program became the winningest team in program history today with a 29-3 victory over the University of the District of Columbia. The win marks the 13th of the season, a new program-record. Molloy sits at 13-3 on the season and a flawless 5-0 in East Coast Conference play and marks the team's sixth-straight win. UDC is now 0-11 (0-5 ECC).

Prior to the contest, the men's lacrosse program recognized the 11 members of the senior class that will be graduating in a few short weeks in a Senior Day Ceremony. Those recognized were Dre Alexis (biology/pre-allied health), Mike D'Amato (nursing), Bryan Diliberto (adolescent education), Robert Gazzano (finance), Jack Herzlinger (criminal justice), Luke Hickam (criminal justice), Christian Michaels (finance), Ryan Polehinke (education), Noah Taylor (criminal justice), and Justin Vandewater (business).

How it Happened
  • Molloy dominated from the opening face-off. On the afternoon, the Lions set a new single-game face-off win record, winning 31 of the game's 35 total face-offs.
  • Alexis and Diliberto each found the back of the net to give Molloy the 2-0 lead.
  • Dylan Donaldson put UDC on the board midway through the first quarter.
  • From there, the quarter belonged to the Lions, closing it out with three unanswered goals to lead 5-1.
  • The string of goals would increase to 25 consecutive goals, leading into the final nine minutes of action.
  • A goal from Alan Fuentes broke the streak with six minutes left to play.
  • Polehinke would account for the final Molloy goal of the afternoon before Julian Schemm rounded out the scoring in the final minute of action.
Top Performances
  • Noah Taylor led with a career-best six points on four goals and two assists.
  • Hickam added five points on two goals and three assists.
  • Junior Justin Palulis had four points on three goals and one assist.
  • Diliberto (three goals), junior Brian Green (two goals, one assist), and freshman Luke Barrera (three goals) each had three points. Barrera's three goals, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers were all career-bests.
  • Herzlinger (two assists) and Polehinke (one goal, one assist) each had tw points with Herzlinger adding three ground balls.
  • D'Amato, Alexis, and sophomores Michael McClain and Owen Taylor each scored twice. Alexis added a career-high five ground balls.
  • Junior Brandon Pazienza went a perfect 12-of-12 at the face-off dot and added a goal and six ground balls.
  • Junior Nick Taiani and freshman James Coromilas each added a goal. The goal marks the freshman's first collegiate point while Taini added four ground balls.
  • Junior Jaden McLeod, freshmen Matt Calvo, Jacob Faison, and Anthony LaSala as well as junior Tommy Corcoron all added assists.
  • Freshman Cameron Hovanec won a career-high nine face-offs and picked up a career-best five ground balls.
  • Juniors Shawn McCabe and Thomas Kofod as well as freshman Aiden Dinnigan each had four ground balls. Dinnigan led with three caused turnovers.
  • McLeod, Barrera, Diliberto, sophomore Rocco Hogan, and freshman Zachary Maligres each added three ground balls.
  • Maligres and junior James Franz both won five face-offs.
  • Senior Christian Michaels made four saves in net while junior John Basile added seven in relief.
Up Next
Molloy will end the regular season in a must-watch match against Mercy University on Friday afternoon. The contest features two undefeated teams in East Coast Conference play and will determine the Regular Season Champion and top-seed in the upcoming ECC Tournament. Face-off from Dobbs Ferry is slated for 12:00 p.m.
