Dabbadie Tosses Complete Game Shutout in Sweep Against Queens

Flushing, N.Y. – The softball team completed a sweep of Queens College in a doubleheader this afternoon, earning a 2-0 victory in game one and a 9-1 win in five innings in game two. With the wins, the Lions improve to 15-21 overall and 9-3 in ECC play, while the Knights drop to 6-22 on the season and 5-13 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Stevie Dabbadie limited the Knights to just two hits over the first two innings
  • In the bottom of the third, freshman shortstop Casey Kissinger fielded a line drive and quickly doubled off the runner to keep the Knights scoreless.
  • The Lions struck in the top of the fourth, as freshman Madeline Millman led off with a single to right field. Junior pinch runner Emily McGurk then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by freshman Megan Wegel.
  • Kissinger reached on a dropped fly ball, allowing McGurk to score the first run of the game. Kissinger then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball.
  • Junior Mae Savage followed with an RBI single to bring home the Lions' second run of the inning.
  • Dabbadie gave up just one more hit in the bottom of the fourth but shut down the Knights from there, retiring the final 10 batters she faced to lock in a 2-0 win for the Lions.
Top Performances
  • Dabbadie notched her second complete game shutout of the season against Queens College and the third of her career.
  • Savage went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
  • McGurk and Kissinger each tallied a hit and a stolen base.
  • Wegel, Millman, senior Cheralyn Dusharme, and sophomore Amaya Page all contributed a hit.
 
Game One: Molloy 9, Queens 1 (5 Innings)
How it Happened
  • The Lions' offense came out strong in game two, beginning with a lead off single through the right side by Savage, who then stole second. Page followed with a walk, putting runners on first and second.
  • Senior Natalie Moussa wasted no time, launching her sixth home run of the season to give Molloy an early 3-0 lead.
  • Queens responded in the bottom of the first with a bases-loaded walk to plate its first run of the doubleheader, narrowing the deficit to 3-1.
  • Redshirt freshman Alexis Montgomery led off the second inning with a single to the shortstop and advanced to second on a ground out from Savage. Page then singled to left field, advancing to second while Montgomery moved to third. A fielding error in right field allowed Moussa to reach base and brought both Montgomery and Page home, extending the Lions' lead to 5-1.
  • Moussa allowed just one hit in the second inning.
  • In the third, McGurk singled to right center and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Kissinger followed with a single up the middle and stole second, putting runners on second and third.
  • Savage then delivered a two-run single to center field, and a ground out from Moussa brought in another run, making it an 8-1 contest.
  • Dabbadie led off the fourth with a double down the left field line, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a fielding error to push the Lions' advantage to 9-1.
  • Savage turned a double play in the bottom of the fourth, fielding a line drive at second base and flipping it to Dabbadie at first base to double off the runner, holding Queens to just one run.
  • Queens threatened in the bottom of the fifth with a lead off double from Caylea Campbell, followed by a single up the middle from Emma Zumpol. A fielder's choice and a single to through the left side left two runners on second and third with only one out.
  • Moussa struck out the next batter looking, and a second fielder's choice ended the threat, and the game, via the run rule.

  • Savage, Page, and Dabbadie each recorded two hits with Savage adding two RBIs.
  • Moussa recorded one hit and drove in a total of four runs.
  • Wegel, McGurk, Kissinger, and Montgomery all added a hit.
  • Savage, Dabbadie, McGurk, and Kissinger all swiped a bag.
  • Moussa threw a complete game, adding a strikeout.
