Moussa Drive in Four in Softball Split at Georgian Court

Lakewood, N.J. - The softball team split a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at Georgian Court from SEI Field. The home Lions took the first game, 10-2 in six innings, before Molloy responded with a 7-4 victory in the second game. Molloy sits at 12-20 on the season after the afternoon was done while GCU is 11-19.

Game One: GCU 10, Molloy 2 (6 Innings)
  • The home team took advantage of an RBI double from Cheyenne Jackson in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • The home Lions tacked on two more runs in the second inning following a bases-clearing triple from Kaylin Curro.
  • A lead off double from Ella Moore allowed GCU to add one more run in the third inning following an RBI ground out.
  • Sophomore Amaya Page led off the fourth inning for Molloy by being hit by a pitch.
  • Senior Natalie Moussa made the home team pay with a long home run over the left field fence to cut the deficit in half in the following at bat.
  • The score would stand until the home half of the fifth inning where singles from Julianna Kellogg and Kristy Regalado plated two more runs for GCU.
  • The home team rounded out the scoring with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the run rule.
Top Performances
  • Moussa recorded the lone RBIs for Molloy with the homer.
  • Senior Cheralyn Dusharme and junior Emily McGurk each added hits for the Lions.
  • Moussa tossed a complete game in the circle, striking out two batters.
Game Two: Molloy 7, GCU 4
  • The Molloy bats went right to work to start the second half of the doubleheader. Junior Mae Savage led off with a double before a single and stolen base from McGurk put runners on the corners.
  • Moussa drove in both runners with a single through the left side before adding two bases and scoring a run on wild pitches to set the score at 3-0.
  • The home Lions were retired in order in the first inning, but threatened by loading the bases in the second. Sophomore Stevie Dabbadie struck out pinch hitter Reagan Winn swinging to keep runs off the board.
  • Dusharme doubled down the third base line in the top of the third inning before trading places with Dabbadie, who doubled down the right field line in the following at bat, to make it 4-0.
  • Dabbadie scored on a single up the middle from freshman Madeline Milliman.
  • A double from freshman Hannah Definis put pinch runner Casey Kissinger on third base before an infield single from redshirt freshman Alexis Montgomery increased Molloy's lead to six runs.
  • The home team broke through in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Moore.
  • Dusharme hit her second home run of the season over the left center field fence in the top of the fourth to add another run for the Lions, setting the score at 7-1.
  • A single in the fourth and double in the sixth brought GCU within three, 7-4, with runners the tying run at the plate.
  • Strong defense from Molloy caught Gabriella Aleman stealing to get them out of the jam.
  • A lead off walk in the bottom of the seventh kept GCU's hopes alive, but the following three Lions were retired in order for the victory.
Top Performances
  • Savage, McGurk, and Dusharme each tallied two hits.
  • Moussa led with two RBI.
  • Each of Molloy's nine batters recorded a hit in the contest, including six extra base hits.
  • Savage, McGurk, and freshman Megan Wegel added stolen bases.
  • Dabbadie threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out two.
