Women's Lacrosse Tops Wilmington, 14-9

Newark, Del. - The women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the 2025 campaign, leading from open to close this afternoon in a 14-9 bout against Wilmington University. Molloy improved to 1-6 on the season with the win while Wilmington fell to 2-6.

How it Happened
  • The Lions went to work right away with senior Megan Rugolo scoring in the first three minutes. 
  • Wilmginton tied the game about one minute later, but freshman Ava Benasutti netted her first collegiate goal in the closing seconds of the first quarter.
  • The Wildcats struck first in the second frame, but Rugolo and senior Brenna Signorelli combined for four-straight goals to make it 6-2 Lions. 
  • Ella Royer of Wilmington scored her third of the contest to make it a three-goal game at the half.
  • Benasutti and Signorelli opened the scoring in the third quarter, but then it was the home team's turn for a string of goals, tying the contest at eight to start the fourth quarter.
  • Rugolo and freshman Emma Ryan traded goals within one minute of each other to make it 10-8 before senior Alessandra Borsellino tallied back-to-back goals headed into the final six minutes. 
  • The Lions would score twice in the final 90 seconds to round out the score at 14-9.
Top Performances
  • Rugolo led with five points on four goals and one assist to go with five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
  • Signorelli netted a career-high four goals while adding five ground balls.
  • Benasutti tallied her first career hat trick and added an assist for four points.
  • Borsellino added six draw controls to her two goals.
  • Ryan and seniors Alexa Amorison, Carly Howell and Samantha King as well as freshman Tiana Barone all picked up two ground balls.
  • Howell also forced three turnovers while Barone had two.
  • Freshman Ryleigh Zamora had three draw controls.
  • Sophomore Nicole Schaumloffel made 12 saves in the effort.
