No. 22 Baseball’s Late Rally Falls Short At Lynn

Boca Raton, Fla. – The 22nd-ranked Molloy baseball scored six unanswered runs to finish out the ballgame, but would fall just short of a comeback as they fell to the Fighting Knights of Lynn, 8-7, Saturday afternoon. The Lions move to 6-4 on the campaign, while Lynn improves to 10-9.

How it Happened
  • After two innings of scoreless baseball, Lynn put together a four run bottom of the third on the back of a run scoring double, single, and a two run homer to go in front, 4-0.
  • In the top of the fifth, junior Sean Welsh got the Lions on the board with an RBI single to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.
  • Lynn retook it four-run advantage, 5-1, in the bottom of the frame following a solo home run.
  • A three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth gave the Fighting Knights a seven run lead, 8-1, after six innings of action.
  • Sophomore Anthony Marsillo led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to shrink the deficit to six, 8-2. Later in the inning, graduate student Aidan Larkin singled home a run to bring the Lions within five, 8-3.
  • In the top of the ninth after sophomore Joe Burriesci singled, junior Sean Welsh belted a two-run home run over the left-center fence to get Molloy within striking distance, 8-5.
  • Three batters later with runners on second and third, Dagnello reached first after a dropped third strike wild pitch and Larkin came around to score to bring Molloy within two, 8-6.
  • With the bases loaded and one out, freshman Steve Mulqueen reached following an error and sophomore James Sill crossed the plate to cut the deficit down to one, 8-7.
  • The cardinal and white would have the bases loaded with one away with the game-tying run 90 feet away, but the Fighting Knights would close the door converting a strikeout and ground out to end the contest ahead, 8-7.
