Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up First Conference Win Over UDC

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's lacrosse team moved to 1-1 in East Coast Conference play and 3-8 overall with a 18-1 victory over the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia (0-5, 0-1 ECC) on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
  • Molloy pounced early with two goals in the opening 1:14 from freshman Ava Benasutti and senior Brenna Signorelli.
  • Senior Megan Rugolo netted three straight goals over the next four minutes to extend the lead to 5-0.
  • The Lions ended the first quarter with two more goals from Benasutti and one from freshman Emma Ryan to take a 8-0 advantage into the second.
  • The home team kept UDC off the scoreboard in the second stanza while seeing five goals from five different scorers, heading into halftime ahead, 13-0.
  • In the third quarter, the Lions saw freshmen Ryleigh Zamora  and Miranda D'Alessio and junior Emma Brazier net their first goals of the season as well as freshman Shannon Stroud in the fourth stanza, as the Lions closed out the victory, 18-1.
Top Performances
  • Rugolo totaled a game-high seven points (four goals and three assists).
  • Benasutti tallied four goals.
  • Senior Alexa Amorison (three assists) and Ryan (one goal and two assists) collected three points each.
  • Seniors Sofia Quitoni (one goal and one assist) and Alessandra Borsellino (two assists), Signorelli (two goals), and Zamora (one goal and one assist) added two points apiece.
  • Junior Olivia Ingenito led the squad with four ground balls and tied a team-high three caused turnovers.
  • Senior Carly Howell caused three turnovers.
  • In goal, sophomore Nicole Schaumloffel was not forced to make the save in the victory.

Molloy will have a week to prepare for an ECC showdown with Mercy Saturday, April 5. The contest is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. in Rockville Centre.
